Injectors can get dirt in them that holds them open. Late 71s and 72s can have some wires on the starter switched which makes the FI think it should run rich all the time. There are also idiots of the "if some is good, more is better" persuation who will crank up the fuel pressure hoping for better performance. All of these things and more can cause dilution of the oil by gas. You have a potentially very good car. 72 is my favorite year.
