There were two different switches which do not directly interchange.but could be adapted to work. The late T3 AT cars (72-3) had a neutral safety switch which allowed you to start the car in either P or N. The early ATs only allowed you to start in N. I would guess that N was chosen in the early cars because this would allow you to restart a car that was already moving, something I had to do just yeaterday. I agree that the later configuration is much better and I will change my 69 over someday..
