It bolts to the type 3 case where the original type 3 dipstick tube bolts on. It is longer than the stock tube extending about 7 - 8 inches in length and requires a longer dipstick (mostly the handle part) which is also available seperatly. This is supposed to be used to convert the type 3 case for use in a type 1. I used one of these setups on my type 3 engine that I had installed in my bug for about 2 years and you can access the dipstick from behind the fan housing.
