This is partly not quite correct! The 914 and the Type III do share the FI system in principle, but almost all the details are different, which is logical. Closer are the 914 and all US spec Type IV's except the last model year. These systems have some interchangability between them. Only the last year of the Type IV in the US only had the L-Jetronic (AFC or Luftmenge), where almost nothing is interchangeable with the previous D-Jetonic (Druck). The US market also had an L-Jetronic in the 914 in the later model. I'm not sure when it came. Other cars with a D-Jetronic system came from Opel, Mercedes, Volvo (also supplied by Bosch). The Boxer engine relevant evolution continued with the Digijet and the Digifant Systems in the Vanagon. BTW I saw a Squareback with a K-Jetronic at Irvine last year. Cool. But folks: Don't mess with non-stock setups if you don't really know what your doing. This is easiest indicated by if you have an exhaust gas analyser or not. For example all pressure sensors on the D-jetronic look the same but there must be 20 different ones.
