So, you did the carb rebuild and it was running OK for 20 miles, then 
you shut it down and it wouldn't start again, or did it happen some 
other way? 

Now, when you crank the starter, you get no firing at all or sputtering 
but no start?

Do you know whether you have fuel to both carbs yet?

Are you saying you've found significant differences between the diagram 
and your actual wiring? If so, your wiring may be improvised by the 
previous owner -- kiss of death.
