After installing the Pertronix you will need to adjust your timing. Follow the directions. I didn't want to get into this part, but since Pertronix came up... Had my carbs cleaned and rebuilt (new gaskets and such), why? Well, let's just say that believe people when they say don't gasoline sit in a car over a couple of months...it DOES turn to varnish and clog everything! $473 (OUCH!) and five hours later my baby is back up and running on, get this Jim and Keith, a *stock* ignition system. Yep, my Pertronix quit so the mechanic had to go to stock points, then my Jacobs Bug-Pak *died* so they had to use the *stock* coil (it's used as a switch for the Bug-Pak so it stays in the car), THEN they found one of the spark plug wires had a 1/4" gap in it so the buffer that "stores" power for the plugs was all being wasted on the one cylinder, soooo I'm back to using *stock* 7mm wires. They used an oscilloscope or something like that while driving it around and the computer was acting all sorts of weird. Needless to say, I did not race at Bremerton Dragstrip or at Seattle International Raceway, however, with the tuned carbs my gas mileage on the highway is up to 24mpg and I have plenty of power in 5th gear to accelerate well past 90mph :) She goes back into the shop in the next week or two for further testing and probably a VERY good bitch session to Jacobs... The Pertronix lasted three years. The Compufire on my Porsche has lasted two (and it would still be functioning if it weren't for that stone wall I hit).
