Stay with a stock (mechanical) fuel pump. Speaking of electric fuel pumps, I bought a red Holley electric fuel pump (sucker is about 6" tall!!!) and it gives a pressure of 7psi. I then bought the Holley adjustable fuel pressure regulator and today I will buy the Holley oil pressure switch. Of course, I'm going on the advice of Gene Berg on the use of the Holley equipment for the electric fuel pump conversion. Well, and the brand name as well ;) The FLAPS is a Holley distributor so the pump and regulator were less than $115 (Gene Berg Ent. sells the pump for about $112 alone!). Oh, everything was on sale, which helped <grin>. Why the oil pressure switch? Well, in the instructions it gives a simple wiring schematic on how to power the fuel pump. Part of the setup is using an oil pressure switch that has a Normally Open and a Normally Closed lead and a Common lead. The pump gets electricity from the starter switch lead when you crank the engine and once oil pressure is up the oil pressure switch closes (by now the engine is running and the key is in the normal "on" position) and now electricity goes through the switch to the fuel pump. Should the engine die the oil pressure will cease to exist, the switch will then open, and power will be cut off to the fuel pump. So in an accident you don't have to worry about fuel being pumped into a potential fire situation. Pretty neat, huh? I'm just waiting on a T-adapter so I can use the oil pressure switch with my VDO combination switch (idiot light *and* gauge) and some more money so I can use stainless steel braided fuel lines <big grin>. Yeah, I'll let y'all know how it works once I'm done.
