Souping up a type-3 with reasonable expectations is good for you and your wallet. However, if you think you are going to "kill mustangs or camaros" forget it. You will spend lots of money.., in addition...your engine still won't be as reliable as the camaro or mustang you wish to beat. here's a solution, if you are a speed freak and you like aircooled....buy a corvair, they're cheap, have the same advantage as your type-3 as far as handling...and they range from 95 h.p. to 180 h.p....and that's stock (some have turbos). Now before i get flamed, i'm not saying that a corvair is "better" than a type 3. Far from it, it's less efficient. But if you want to go fast in something aircooled that you can afford, go fast in a car that was designed for it (and one that you don't have to sell your soul to afford).
