One thing I like to do is when I'm at my old mans place (who has been an avid Mopar fan since the beginning of time) is to browse through all his American "muscle" car magazines and see how those customizers have done things (e.g. - unique mounting of various lenses, lamps, gauges, antenni, etc...). It's a great way to get ideas. As a matter of fact I was there borrowing his garage this weekend and found a layout on a '34 or '36 Ford that was painted the exact color as my SqrBk (Ultra Violet), It's kinda cool seeing that color on various cars.
