I always recommend using synthetic oil as soon as the engine has been properly broken in as per the manufacturer's instructions. Either way, don't use additives in the oil, period! Today's brand-name oils are high quality products with their own additives and provide excellent protection. My favorite conventional oil is Castrol. Mobil 1 if using synthetic.
