If you can get the car started, then I really doubt that what you are seeing is pure gasoline. Keep in mind that anything that comes out of there will smell like gasoline. Drip some of it on a piece of paper and carefully see how well it burns. Of course your engine may be running rich, and your starting technique may be abnormal, but whatever you do to get the engine started will have little lasting effects beyone the first few seconds of running.
