Break it down this way: 363 2 2317 or in other words, 3, it is a type 3 6, it is body style 6, a squareback 3, the last digit of its model year, (7)3 2, the second decade of VW's use of this numbering scheme 2317, it was the 2317th type 3 made in that model year Many "lists" contain just numbers with a 1 in the second position, but must be understood to apply to several possibilities there. The kinds of parts you will be buying from these kinds of places will not differ depending on the body style.
