I have a brake problem that is so frustrating that I'm about to sell my '73 Squareback out of sheer anger. I've had the car for ten years, and as long as I've owned it, it's pulled to the right whenever I step on the brakes. It wasn't real bad but it was annoying, so I decided to have the front brakes worked on about year ago, to see if they could figure it out. Well, needless to say, they didn't. About a month ago, I went to a repair shop that specializes in German cars, and I had them replace nearly the entire brake system. New front rotors, calipers, rear drums and cylinders, and all new pads. The master cylinder is only a couple of years old so I left it in place, along with the old brake lines. After all that, the car pulls to the left now, and the right front sticks, when I make a hard stop. It acts like it's pulling to the left because the right front pads are binding at first, and sticking a little after. I spent over $700 on the whole job, and the problem seems worse now than it was before -at least before it wasn't sticking. Now I can't even drive the car! The mechanic isn't much help beyond trying to get more money out of me but before I spend another dime on this car, I would like to see if there are any type 3 owners out there who might have a suggestion or two. Has this problem happened to anyone else? Thanks for your help. By the way, the caliper spring plates are the right ones, and I personally filed down the edges of the new pads (to add just a little extra clearance.)
