I think I've got the wrong end of the stick. I thought Jim was referring to a toothed cam as they have on Beetles and Bus carbs. There's no toothed cam visible externally. If you open up the auto-choke housing there is a cam, but it just has two steps right at one end. This is what sets the choke closed, which was mentioned in the original post. Dave.
