A few things I've learned in the process of working on my car. 1) Make sure all bodywork that is necessary is done prior to the chop. Fix any dents in the roof area and on the A,B,C, and D pillars. 2) Measure twice and cut once. In the case of chopping a car, Measure 50 times and cut once. 3) Work on a level area. 4) Don't quarter the top. It is much easier to retain the roof shape. 5) Brace the car before cutting. By welding bracing between the windshield and the floor in a "V" shape and from the back door jams down. 6) Use a method for taking the same amount of material from each pillar. A pilar that is raked back 80 degrees vs. a pillar close to 90 will need different lengths out. 7) Read any book you can find about chopping tops. Sometimes the Hot Rod magazines will have an article. VW Trends and Hot VW's have had articles on chopping a bug. That's all I can think of for now. - Phillip Bradfield - Portland, Oregon '63 Notchback w/ 68 pan '69 Squareback chopped 3" ------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe? mailto:type3-request@vwtype3.org, Subject: unsubscribe
