OK, here comes my tribute to the thread, too (in somewhat cronological order): Currently driving: '73 Squareback, bone stock, but in fairly good unrestored condition. Works fine! '94 Ford Mondeo 2,0 GLX, A/C, ABS, antispin etc etc (wife«s car). It«s OK. Previous cars: '59 customized bug on '67 chassis. 3 inch roof chop, '55 rear window etc etc. Time-to-time-project since 1976. Sold it last summer (got fed up with it). And a bunch of european family style daily-drivers... '91 Opel Omega Caravan 2,4i (very nice car...) '89 Ford Scorpio 2,9i V6 (one of my favourites...fast and fun!) '85 Nissan Prairie "Space Wagon" (good family car, but BORING and slow!) Second cars along with those... '85 Toyota Corolla (rustbucket...but cheap˜áÒ pel Kadett (another pile of shit...but it was cheap!) During our university era we had to stick to low-budget cars... '70 SAAB V4 (lasted one summer...ugly as hell...only costed me 1500 SEK (20 $)) '74 Mercedes 220 Diesel (Oh Brother...Worst pile of junk I ever owned! Sold after 3 months of enormous troubles) And before that, when we had any income, we had a... '81 Honda Accord '79 SAAB 900 '78 SAAB 99 '74 SAAB 99 '72 SAAB 99 '65 Mercedes 190 (The best car I ever had! Not fast, but faithful and beautiful!) '66 Mercedes 200 (donor car to the one above) '59 T1 1200 (got it as a present from my aunt, at my 17 birthday. Became the custom project mentioned above) '64 Ford Cortina GT (This one was indeed unreliable: 1 hour driving = 3 hours of garage work! But ran like hell when it was working...Never, ever will I buy a british car again!) '61 T1 1200 (My buddy«s aunt's laid off car. Me and my buddy learned how to drive in this one. We were only thirteen...was driving round and round in 1st gear, behind the barn...oh, those were the days...) '63 T1 1200 (donor car to above) Not to mention all my fathers cars, that I also had (still have) to take care of... '86 Jetta 1,6 '84 Passat 2,3GLE '78 Ford Granada '72 Volvo 142 '76 VW LT31 '75 VW LT31 '74 Bus 1600 '72 Bus 1600 '70 Bus 1600 '67 Split-window Bus 1500 '59 Split-Window Bus with new 1303S 1600! This one was fun to drive...took me and all my friends to at least a hundred parties! The buses above all required a lot of rust-o-ration job and frequent replacing of worn-out engines and trannys, so that part of VW tech I know quite well... Did a big mistake once, though. Was replacing the broken tranny in the '59 swing-axle bus with a T1 tranny I had on the shelf. When I was finished I had 4 gears backwards and one forward...F*ck!! I had overseen the fact that the reduction gears at the wheels changes the rotation! *sigh* With blushing red ears I had to pull the whole thing down again and get the final drive assembled the other way around ... Took me a whil¡“ó over that one... :-( Oh boy, am I long-winded! Sorry for the long story, but I like to show off... /Karl-Olov Sandin ------------------------------------------------------------------- Too much?
