Volks, Well, after a couple of weeks of testing in the heat I've come to the conclusion that the secondary oil cooler I installed is not working as effectively as I had hoped. Though the location *appears* to be a good location, in the air stream, it's not. Yes, the cooler does get a *good* flow of air through it as I'm driving but without a fan it gets no air when I'm at a stop. I know the problem: The cooler is located about 4" from the ground. The ground, which is asphalt, is a rather hot surface and I figure that the cooler is scooping heated air, not cooler air as intended, so the temperature drop isn't as extreme as it should be, thus no cooling difference in the day time when the cooler is really needed. Mornings, when the asphalt and air is cool the secondary cooler works better. To test my theory I placed my (VERY accurate) photography thermometer 4" above the asphalt in front of my house, shielded from the sun by tin foil (thermometer, tin foil and wooden support block were outside for about 20-minutes to come to temperature). This way only the radiated heat from the road would affect the thermometer. After ten minutes the temp. was 77.5-deg.F. I then placed the thermometer 12" above the asphalt for another ten minutes. The temperature dropped to 75.5-deg.F. There was no breeze and the time was 10-o'clock in the morning. Highly scientific? Nope. I probably should've used two thermometers at the same time. But with a lower reading, at a time when the outside temperature was rising, and thermometer isolation consistent it seems good enough confirmation to me. And after all those science classes I took it just seems natural that the temp would be cooler when further away from a "black body". So, lesson learned. Sharp looking setup, but that's all it is, just looks. Back to the drawing board. Hmmm, right behind the taillight assembly, using a T3 cooler, drawing air from just one set of the side louvres...
