ok, here's the updated story: '69 FI AT, won't idle when warm. Timing OK. New plugs, wires, points, condenser, fuel filter, fuel hose. tried twiddling with the 4 intake manifold boots, but didn't really help. they're pretty tight, so i don't think they're really shot. newer symptoms/diagnoses: seems to run a bit better when it is cooler (50-60 deg); and stalls when hotter (80-100 deg). the stalling happens when in gear (e.g. sitting at the lights). Jim asked if it would idle if shifted into neutral: yes, it almost always will. However, just as it is showing signs of dying, the oil light flickers, rather than the gen. light. Keith's post a day or two ago has made me paranoid the engine is about to give up. runs fine when it's going except moving off from a standstill, when there's a second or two hesitation. struggles a tad more than i feel it should on hills. valve adjustment is due any day now (3k ago). 158k miles on engine (valve job only at 90k). it is leaking oil from the oil cooler seal (to be replaced this w/end); would this make a difference? the only fuel hose i haven't replaced yet is the one that goes from the pressure sensor to underneath the intake air distributor. it's in good condition at the p.s. end but very slightly cracked at the air dist. end. again, would this make much of a difference? (this will be replaced at the same time as the oil cooler seals). i think that ends my monologue. thanks again. sonny ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
