OK... but if the ones rolling around in my car are the right ones, why are they set to turn the opposite direction of the beetle gen when they're in the engine? The way they're turning, it looks like they'd be _draining_ power from the battery... Before the beetle gen. died completely, it worked (if not well...)... now I'm really confused!!!! Could it be a beetle engine or something too? (I must confess I hadn't gotten around to looking at the engine ID # yet, although I've been suspecting it's definitely _not_ the original engine...) Type III generators are *supposed* to have a cap on one end. Upright (Beetle, Bus) engines have studs on both ends -- one for the pulley and one for the fan.
