Holy extreme close-ups, T-man! Just from memory, I'd have to agree with Jim on this one. I don't recall seeing that much exposed thread on the clamps of the last 2 engines I worked on. Maybe some Go-rilla tightened the clamp too much? But then again, it does seem to me that the bolt is a bit longer on the type III clamp (if there is any distinction between it and type I). There's supposed to be a spacer in there according to Haynes (you didn't think I was travelling without useful reading material did you). It's on page 81 of the type III manual. Perhaps a little re-configuring with a longer bolt and a piece of 1/4 inch tubing is in order.
