Poor fuel consumption on injection is often due to a leak in the pipe from manifold pressure sensor to intake air chamber. (Or a hole in the diaphragm inside the pressure sensor). The favourite cause of changing idle speed is air leaks to the intake air chamber, either at the big hoses to the four intake pipes (try turning them round a bit and see if the idle speed changes), or on the hose from the warm-up device (where the fuel pump is on carb Type 3s) to the underneath rear of the intake air chamber. Check all the hoses for security and leaks; remove and replace the connectors (carefully!) and you may find it's OK. I've found very fine tuning of the distributor timing can significantly change idling, particularly with the twin vacuum distributor (two pipes into the vacuum chamber). This sounds so like the problem a friend has at the moment with her injection Squareback. She had trouble with the pump relay, but that seems to be OK now. She has poor fuel consumption too. If you find a nice, clear solution, I'd be grateful to hear, Sonny.
