What a puzzle, Brian. Does the fluid come out of the bleed nipples OK? Presumably yes, or you wouldn't have cleared the stock from your auto-parts store. Is it clear or bubbly? Any possibility there is insufficient free-play in the pedal ( 1/2" - 3/4" at the pedal = 1mm at the operating push-rod)? There are little valves that may be stay covered in the m/c, preventing that section of the master cylinder losing its trapped air. If the fluid comes out of the rear clear, it suggests a problem bleeding the m/c, which is just compressing the air when you hit the brakes. Try leaving the car level or nose up for a time before bleeding next time, so the air bubbles can get up the reservoir hoses.
