A valve cover seal fails when 1. it's installed incorrectly. Pull off the cover; you may find the seal has slipped off the lip, or there's a chunk of crud stuck to it, etc. 2. the edge of the cover or head is damaged. Unusual, but easy to spot. I've never seen an undamaged cover fail, and the only wire bails I've seen fail are the chromed ones -- the acids and heat of the chroming process weakens them. Steven Ayres, Prescott AZ
