Hi Volks, did you people ever know how much fun it is to replace a type-3 engine compared to a beetle? I hope I don`t get banned from the list for the following, but I think aircooled is allowed. On friday I started to replace the 1300 engine of my `69 beetle by a 1500ccm engine. I haven`t done this on a beetle for while, I forgot what hard work it is to access all bolts and how many parts are not interchangeable. Well, to make it short, on Saturday evening that car ran again with a lot more kick than the old 1300. Until this afternoon 4 p.m.... My wive was driving it from the freeway as she realized black smoke in the rear view mirror. The engine had caught fire because the ignition coil had worked itself loose... Until she found somebody with a fire extinguisher the metal of the rear trunk had gotten so hot that it lit the carpet and head liner. It won`t be that hard to get the car running again, but a long to make it look as cool as it was. It was the first summer with this car after a body off, bare metal respray restoration, but at least the insurance will pay the demage. And I won`t get bored this winter :-( I just had to share this with somebody. Oh, last but not least, nothing happened to my wife. And always make sure your ignition coil can`t get loose !
