A compression or leakdown test will tell all... Did you accidently leave a hose off during the work?? like the aux air regulator hose?? causing a lean condition will burn a hole in #3 under heavy loads. A cheap or thin-walled barrel set will also lead to this. A hole in a piston will dump the oil out the rear main into the fan but will not make any knocking sounds unless your very unluckey and the whole piston breaks up or peices get into the bearings. keith
