The recommendation is two people to put the tent together. Putting it on the
car would definitely take two people. The tent is water-resistant and you can
BUY (shell out even more money!) a boot to go over it to protect it from the
rain and bugs whilst toddling down the motor way. Remember, it has the table
under it as well.
I agree with John. You can buy a helluva lot more with that chunk o' change.
It is a neat, retro item but I wouldn't buy one unless it was $500 or less.
Heck, at that price I'd be afraid to use it!

Hello All,
I saw the tents on the web page. Yes, they are "neat." My wife and I do a
lot of camping in our Variant and in our Beetle. We bought an excellent,
waterproof, roomy, well-ventilated tent not for $1,250, but for $150. Even
though the cooltent is nifty, it seems to be more of a gimmick than anything
practical. Please consider: I set up my tent in 10 minutes; I can stand up
in it; I don't have to climb down a ladder with bare feet on a midnight run
to visit the bushes; my tent is small enough to stow away behind the rear
seat of the Beetle; not all flat camping spots are accessible by car; and
best of all, I don't have to take my tent down when I want to drive to the
store to get groceries!
Yes, the cooltent looks neat, but I would suggest to buy it only for reasons
other than practicality. They don't show how "easy" and "quick" it is to
put that big, boxy cooltent thing on top of your car. And is it waterproof?
What happens if it rains on the way to your destination? Instead, I would
suggest that one buys a nice tent, a nice, aerodynamic cartop carrier (If
you need more space inside your car) and a smorgasborg of parts for your VW!
This reminds me of an old VW commercial.
Remember the old VW commercial "Keeping up with the Krempers" in which Mr.
Jones and Mr. Kremper both had $3,000. With his money, Mr. Jones bought
himself a $3,000 car. With his money, Mr. Kremper bought a new range, new
washer, new stereo system, two new TVs, new refrigerator and a BRAND NEW
Volkswagen.
Just my opinion. Sorry if I offended any cooltent loyalists.
