Contacting VAG.

T3,

After sending a note to another listee about getting in touch with the
Factory, I thought it might be a good idea to share this thought with the
entire list. To many of you, this is old hat, but there are also a lot of
new additions to the list, and maybe this info has not reached everyone.

If you want to find out what historical data Volkswagenwerk AG has in their
records about YOUR Type III, then send them a letter and ask. Include a
paragraph about your Volkswagen (model, year make and so on) and give them
your VIN (vehicle identification number).

VAG will write back to you in about three weeks time with whatever
information that they have on file. It usually includes: production date,
delivery date & destination, original engine number, original paint code &
name, original interior color and whatever extras your Volkswagen may have
been originally ordered with from the factory by the dealer. This letters
also adds some original, historical information to your car.

The address is:

Volkswagenwerk AG
Customer Service Department
Dieselstrasse
D -- 38436 WOLFSBURG
G E R M A N Y

There is also another rumor (it may be just that) that VW is collecting the
information that they get back from the people who write in and are
compiling data on just how many old Volkswagens are still on the road and
in use. Rather romantic in a way.

Once you get it back, mail the info to the list. Everyone likes to hear
about things like this.
