3 things to try:

1) make sure you have the proper condensor for the coil (matched)

2) make sure the condensor is grounded properly to the distrubutor (mounted)
and the distributor is tightened in the car and the coil is well connected.

3) make sure the spring on the points isn't hitting the side of the dist inside and grounding out the points.
