RE: synthetic oil

If I recall, the consensus is this:

Synthetic is better than conventional oil.
Do not use synthetic on a new/rebuilt engine for a while. It inhibits break-in wear.
Do not use synthetic on an older motor without a full flow filter. It frees up crud.
If your engine leaks with conventional oil, it will leak much worse with Synth.
Early synths did not dissipate heat very well, but newer synths are better.
There doesn't seem to be any well documented instances of a motor using Synthetic lasting significantly longer than one using conventional oil that is changed regularly. If there is, I'd like to read about it.
Synth is much more expensive than conventional. The benefit vs expense factor is worth pondering.

both running conventional oil, due to the usual leaks and lack of funds.
