Several weeks ago, Maggie was on her way to the body shop to be painted and cleaned up. Well, as usual with the way things go with me, I changed my mind at the last minute and decided to put in a new engine and take care of a few interior issues. Because I have no place to work on Maggie and the fact my girlfriend is not keen on the idea of me building the longblock up in my living room, Maggie is sitting at the local VW shop where Bill Jenkins is rebuilding the engine to my specifications. Instead of going all out with a 2.0L, I opted to go with a little 1776cc: Counterweighted Crank Performance Rods Balanced Engle 110 Cam Dual 34 Webers Gene Berg Full Flow System Gene Berg 3.5 Quart Sump (He says it clears on the street) .. gobs of other stuff .. I basically wanted something with a little more power than stock but still wanted reliability. Inside the car, I am installing: VDO Gauges, Oil Temp & Oil Pressure (Cockpit Royale) Scat Elite Seats (Stock seats are uncomfortable for my large frame and do not slide back far enough. I am 6'2" tall) Scat Shifter (I have always had one in all my aircooleds, very nice shifter) New Headliner and Carpeting in front & rear One of these days I will put the web page up, I promise Toby E. ;-) I hope to get her back at least a few days before it snows. I am not driving her this winter so once measurable snow fall starts accumlating she is off to the garage until April. --- \/ John T.
