Hello everybody If you would all lend me an ear - theres been some funny noises coming from my engine lately. Its basically a semi loud (?!) tapping/clacking sound coming from somewhere near the middle of the crankcase. More noticeable when the automatic choke has just disengaged and the engine is still slightly cold or when it sometimes idles a bit rough. when the revs go up the noise disappears This engine is a recon from VW and has 87 000 miles on. I did a top-end overhaul about 15 000 miles ago and everything seemed fine then. So what am I looking at? Bad main bearing, bad big-end bearing, bad gudeon pin? How does one check the play on a Type 3 crank without pulling the engine? Your thoughts please?
