I used a 4 inch paint scraper/putty knife and a heat gun do remove mine. Get started scraping at one end and heat the pad under the knife while scraping to soften the tar-like glue. Try to only soften, not melt, the tar as it gets REALLY messy. If you can get it a little warm without melting it, it chips right off relatively easily.
