According to the 1965 owner's manual: "The fuel tank capacity of 40 liters (10.6 US gall.; 8.8 Imp. gall.) is sufficient for 450 km (280 miles)...When the needles registers "R" (reserve) it is time to fill up at the next opportunity. The remaining 5 liters (1.3 US gall.; 1.1 Imp. gall.) in the tank will last for about 55 km (34 miles). The Volkswagen 1500 with the twin-carburetor engine must be run on premium fuel with an octane rating of at least 95.*)" I assume this applies to all 1961-1967 carbureted T3s. Of course the fuel gauge reading changes over time, your Reserve amount may vary... Bye, Everett '65 Squareback with a Reserve reading of about 2.0 US gallons.
