Hi All-- Since a new "modern" A/C system is one of the major features of our top-rated '73 SQBK show at the Website: http://www.knowitallproductions.com/vw we'd like to add to the discussion. Please see our solution at the end. >Keith wrote: >be ready for major MAJOR $$$$ in charging/recharging to work out all the leaks >and get the system vacuumed out and running again. If you are restoring a type 3, don't put back the old A/C. Forget the R12 refrigerant. We used a kit produced by Gilmore Enterprises in Clearwater, FL that uses 134A, the modern eco-friendly refrigerant. The system has a new-tech rotary compressor with custom Gilmore-designed bracket (real important), new evaporator, and condenser (orig.) modified with fans. Gilmore has a kit for bug and bus too. You can reach them at 813-573-2944. Ask for Ed and tell him Robert & Carolyn Wilson referred you. We love ours!
