Okay, I have a question for the Type 3 electrical gurus: I recently converted from a 009 back to the stock 1966 distributor. While attempting to set the total advance timing via a timing light, the car stalled. It turned out the E-clip was missing that holds the points in, thus causing the points to misalign. Fixed that, set ethe point gap, statically set the timing to 7.5 BTDC per manual. Now, the car will not start. Getting 0 & 6-volts at terminal 1, where the condenser returns to the coil, when the points open and close. Getting spark to spark plug wires, looks a little weak but it's there, measured by letting it arc from the spark plug wire to the dizzy cap as someone cranks the engine. The points, condenser, and cap are all new. Swapped out the spark plugs - they were totally black from cranking it so much. Finally returned to the 009 and it starts and runs normally. What could be wrong with the stock dizzy? It was running fine for 1 week until I went to set the total advance... Any help is much appreciated, I liked the way the stock dizzy ran a lot better.
