There seems to be something wrong with your number(s). Each VW has
only one VIN, call it a body number or a chassis number, there should
be only one. If yours is 274187 then this is a 64. If it is
310274187 then it looks like a 70, but there is a digit missing.
Where is your gas tank filler neck, in the trunk or in the right
fender?
BTW, I share the other opinion that you got about not ripping up this
nice piece of automotive history.
