fishbowl=> Also, I was looking at the end of the inlet of the air => cleaner, (again, stock for '66) and I wonder if there is supposed to => be a hose there. What would it connect to? For '66 there are two hoses that enter the air stream between the intake and the air cleaner. The obvious one is from the crankcase vent to the snoot of the air cleaner housing. The hose that's usually missing, and which I expect you're referring to, enters the underside of the mixer box -- the tin thing with the weighted flap inside. This draws warm air from the right front heat exchanger to regulate intake air temperature. You'll find a hose nipple for this under the tin at the top front of the exchanger. The hose (I use flexible conduit) runs back through a pipe under the right-side tin, which also helps warm the air.
