Yes, your stats do look pretty bad. Normal checks: make sure all wire connections are clean and shiny, the generator/voltage regulator are performing properly, and your ignition system is up to par. Ignition means checking the points for firing the injectors as well as the spark plugs since you'll be inspecting the distributor anyway for wear. Is the coil still good and the plug wires solid (not cracked)? Check the spark plugs for proper gap, no excessive wear and how they look. Reading plugs can be tricky and isn't the tell-all of the engine but it does help nonetheless. I have no idea what a Krypton machine is (except Superman probably won't be using it) but it could very well be a tuning problem. Poor gas mileage can also mean poor power extraction from the burning fuel (incomplete fuel combustion). Improper timing can affect your mileage and power. Check the easy (cheap) stuff first before going out and buying parts/getting paid help (i.e. a mechanic). Just some quickie stuff off the top o' my head I'd check if I had FI. Just thought of something...does anyone think this could be a fuel pressure problem (pressure regulator)? ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: MPG problems Author: type-3-errors@umich.edu at SMTPGATE Date: 5/12/97 7:08 AM Hi! Does anyone have any snappy suggestions for improving my MPG? I have a 1600 injection fastback, and I am getting what seems to be ridiculously low mileage from it.. about 17 mpg on motorways, and 10mpg urban. It has been suggested that it could have something to do with the injection unit? The engine has been tuned using a krypton machine, so it cant be a tuning problem.. all ears Jay '72 Fastback
