Re: LSDs

OK Kids,
Here we go . . . looking back at the original VW Type 3 'M' codes (BIG
THANKS to Jim Adney for the 'M' codes list!!), the option of LSD was made by
specifying "M-220" and is listed as available for models 311-318 & 361-368.
Jim, perhaps with this info, someone could tell us more?? (such as how to
tell what model I/you/we have!?!?)

In a message dated 97-05-01 14:15:11 EDT, you write:

The VW microfilm for the t3 shows LSDs. I don't recall whether it shows
parts for both the swing axle and the IRS, but there's something in there.
There is no indication that they were actually supplied on any of our cars,
but the fact that they were put in the microfilm must mean that someone
thought so--or made a bit of a mistake!

At any rate the LSD action all takes place in the differential, so there is
no reason to worry about changing the nose cone. OTOH, perhaps Keith meant
to just use the whole Thing tranny and switch nose cones if necessary to get

it to fit in a T3. Even this will not always work, because there was a
change in the way one of the main- or counter- shaft bearings was retained
in around 72, so you cannot swap nose cones across that boundary--or should
 I say "one shouldn't."

Does anyone know of any market where T3s were available with LSDs?

 Jim
