Ohhhh yeah, I've seen it! Happened to me when I had my last engine (1641cc). Except it was my #3 valve. It's call a burned valve. It happened to me in Denver, Colorado, as I was making my way home to Oregon from South Carolina. Made it home on three cylinders, though! She's a total babe :) As for reworking the old block I kinda recommend a 2.0L... ;) Toby Erkson air_cooled_nut@pobox.com '72 VW Squareback 1.6L bored and stroked to 2.0L '75 Porsche 914 1.8L for sale Portland, Oregon, USA ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: Choices, Choices... Author: type-3-errors@umich.edu at SMTPGATE Date: 5/7/97 11:10 AM About 4 months ago I dropped a rebuild into my III, and it's doing great. 10 hours in a parking lot with 2 railroad ties, 2 come alongs, and a skateboard paid off. In any case, I did it because of the absolute frustration I was having with the other. I felt like I had lost 1 or two cylinders. I had lost two come to find out. No. 4 and Number 2 (counter opposed), the exhaust valves appeared as though someone had to take a bite out of them. Anyone seen this? Have any idea why? In anycase, I have a solid block, good pistons, etc., and I was wondering what lind of ripper I should build with the old block. Anyone have any suggestions? I am planning on replacing the trany anyway.
