If anyone is interested, according to my Aug. '69 parts book which covers at least to '70 models as it lists all the later panels i.e. the longer bonnet and front fenders etc.. VW lists in this parts book, Limited slip diffs for the type 3 which I guess must have been an option. They show two types - late (IRS) and early (Swing Axle)as follows: 001 517 025 LSD FROM Ch. No. 319 000 001 on ('69 ON open driveshafts) and 181 517 025 LSD TO Ch. No. 318 500 000 (TO '68 swing axle) A quick glance through the other gearbox bits seems to indicate, like a conventional car diff, this would be the only part you would have to buy, scrounge or whatever to convert - take out your standard diff cluster and replace with the LSD cluster if you can find one!!
