I even got so desperate that I ran kite string through the car so i coould get home on the freeway.  It was either 80 mph or stopped 
since it was so tough to regulate the throttle.  It is not very hard to replace the cable, just make sure they sell you the right one.  So 
take the old one with you.  The only tough part is getting the new cable attached to the foot pedal, but it does go on there if you 
manipulate it right.  Good luck.
