Looking for a type 3 fastback...

This is my first post here, so please, be gentle.

A guy here in town (Bloomington, IN) has a '64 for sale for $2,000.
There's some bondo in the front and over the rear tires, some chrome
parts missing, no carpet (or interior of any kind), and supposedly only
needs a new battery.  Is this a good deal?  This is my dream car, and
I've wanted one for about 10 years but never had the opportunity before.
I'm not very knowledgable along mechanical lines, but I'm a quick
learner, so...should i go for it, or wait until a better deal comes
along?

Also, the car doesn't have a heater, is this normal?
