The proper wiring to the choke.  The choke should have a brass male 
electrical connector sticking out from the choke cover.  It is bent 
into a open z shape.  The flat piece against the choke itself should 
have two rivets to secure it to the choke.  The other end should sit 
away from the choke to allow a female connector to supply power from 
the coil connection.  Anything else is inappropriate and potentially 
dangerous.

If (as it sounds) the wire is attached directly to the choke, without 
the connector, this could be big trouble (as in fire).  The wire to 
the choke is HOT electircally whenever the ignition is turned on.  If 
that connection is not secure, you have a hot wire bouncing around 
your engine compartment.  One little fuel leak and  . . . . . . . . .

BTW, Tim Dapper has (or had) chokes for 6V, drop him a line.
