I can hardly believe it, but I just became the proud (and slightly stunned) owner of a '63 notch! Wasn't looking, wasn't expecting, but then suddenly .... The young man who owned it, being in desperate need of quick cash, said I could have it for $1250. Did I jump at it? Yep, right after I got up off the floor! The car is not pristinely original...it has a fresh 1600cc engine, disk brakes up front, 12v electrical and other goodies...all of which make for better driving if not for showing at VW meets. And it runs! Very nicely, too. And it is the only one here in Cedar City, Utah, so I will have people pointing and asking, "What's that thing?" To which I will of course reply, "It's not a Thing, you idiot, it's a Notch!" (Yes, I hate myself when I am such a smarty pants!) I don't know if I got a real bargain or not, since I don't keep up with the going prices on notchbacks, but in the final analysis a car is worth whatever the buyer thinks it is worth. So I am content. Currently very broke, but content. Now, I will be asking for a lot of (free) advice from you notch owners. To begin, how do I keep my wife from wanting to drive it every day?????
