Well, I went to the show in Placerville, CA, a new show, I believe this is the 2nd year they have held it. Swap Meet: Because swap meet spaces were free with entry ($7/person), I brought my misc. Type III and Type II parts to sell. I had never taken parts to a swap meet at a show before and was surprised to feel like I was the dead animal on the range as the parts vultures swooped down on us as we were setting up. I sold my 2 Bus side steps and my Variant door panels within seconds, my 6v gas heater within minutes and a couple hundred $ worth of parts within the next 1/2 hour. It was quite fulfilling and profitable. I guess it pays to only bring quality stuff to the swap meet (yes, that is a direct shot at quite a few people...) Anyway, there was a few cool things available - some nice Type III '61-'63 Notch and Square literature, which I passed on due to price, an original early Notch window crank for $1 (deal!), and some guy yelling "Barndoor parts" at me - maybe a Bus Farmer? Perhaps he knew who I was? Anyway, I'll have to meet them another time, had to get back to my swap spot. (I probably looked rude as I ignored them - sorry!) Show: The show had what I would call a very poor turn out - there couldn't have been more than 30 cars in the show, only 2 Type IIIs, including a nice 65 Squareback (ok, I'm biased), maybe 6 Busses, early and late-model, a few Things and Ghias, and the rest were Bugs. If I had only been there for the show, I would have been pissed at the $7 entrance fee. Oh, well, it takes time for a new show to grow in size... Overall A very happy experience. The promoters need to organize a lot better. They only had one, one-lane gate open into the Fairgrounds and it was for going in and out. Naturally, this caused a big backup. I couldn't figure out what they would have done if more people showed up - the fairgrounds was packed to the max and this was a small turnout!
