RE: Jumping a 6-volt VW


My notch is still 6 volt and living in Montana I've had the situation
come up a few times.
I've learned a hard lesson.

You can use a 12 volt system as long as you don't start the other
vehicle. I had mine jumped 3 times with the other car started and every
time I had electrical problems after. Things like the points burned so
bad that the car hardly runs etc. When I finally realized what was
happening (ok I'm a little slow, it took three times) I asked a
mechanic. He told me to go ahead jump it when necessary but not to start
the other car. Since then I haven't had any problems.
