Wind them back in by two turns 4. Reconnect linkages. Make sure it doesn`t open the carbs. Adjust rods if required. 5. Wind in mixture screws until stop, don`t use force 6. Wind them back out by two turns 7. Start engine and let it warm up until idle gets smooth 8. Remove aircleaner and hold plastic or rubber tube against carb inlet. You will hear a sucking noise. Compare both sides. If one side is louder, it means the carb is open more. 9. Adjust idle screws gently until both sides sound the same 10. Turn off engine. Manually open the carbs as wide as possible. Check if both carbs open to their max and if the reach max at the same time 11. If not, you have to GENTLY bend the throttle arms. These are the little rods at the carbs. 12. Restart engine, it should run pretty good by now. 13. Readjust idle rpm by turning idle excactly the same, no more than 1/8 th of a turn at a time. Carefull, you could mess up the sync. Check with your tube, if carbs still sound the same. 14. When engine is warm, wind in mixture screws, half a turn at a time until engine starts to misfire. 15. Wind out screws just far enough until engine starts to pick up again. >From VolksWorld issue Dec.95 I followed these instructions once on my squareback. It works fine, my engine has been running for over a year now with this setup. It`s good on mpg and runs very smooth at any rpm. Roland `69 square `69 TL `69 beetle
