I like the insulator bandage suggestion; just make sure it is well attached
and durable.

I don't think this part of your engine compartment gets that warm. There
are several rubber/plastic parts in there already, and I have some nylon
cable ties and hose clamps that survive fine. I would try something simpler
like just a flap of rubber from an inner tube held in place with a narrow
hose clamp, wire wrap, or cable tie.
I have not tried this, so if you do you should keep an eye on it and let us
know how it works out. Make sure the rubber is not turning hard with the
heat. Toby is absolutely right that an unnoticed failure here would be a
very bad thing.
