Glad you realized this was unsafe. First find the relay. It is mounted on the "firewall," under the dash, just to the left of the steering column. There are five terminals on the fuel pump relay. Two of them connect via a translucent plastic connector body; these two are really hard to screw up. If you can hear or feel the relay clicking these two are correct. There are two other wires going to your relay, both red, so one terminal is unused. I suspect that both of these wires are on the pair of terminals that are electrically connected inside the relay, thus making the state of the relay irrelevant. To fix this just move EITHER red wire to the unused terminal.
